In comments outside court, Trump painted an apocalyptic picture of the state of the nation. “The country is on fire. There are protests all over the country. I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said. “And we have a president that just refuses to talk because he can’t talk.”
He went on to describe the payment at the centre of the hush money case as a “legal expense”, before turning to Todd Blanche, his lead counsel, and asking: “Is that a good statement, Mr Attorney?”
