President Biden has warned Binyamin Netanyahu that he will halt supplies of heavy bombs and artillery shells if Israel goes ahead with a military invasion of the Gazan city of Rafah, declaring: “I’m not providing the weapons.”
Biden confirmed that he had already ordered the delay of a shipment of more than 3,000 bombs to Israel last week over concerns that the weapons would be used against civilians in the southern city, where more than a million citizens have sought shelter.
“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs,” he said when asked about the American-made weapons. “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah … I’m not providing the weapons,” he added in an interview with CNN.
